The FIV application represents a notably robust image viewer engineered from the ground up with highly optimized code, which excels in rendering large bitonal images such as engineering drawings and well logs. Unlike many competing solutions, FIV does not necessitate importing images into local storage nor does it generate temporary data on your device. It provides direct access to images stored in your camera roll and supported cloud services, allowing for immediate display without delay.

The application is offered at a fair price point, providing full functionality without the need for in-app purchases. Recent updates include support for 3D Touch features such as Quick Actions, Peek/Pop, and enhanced pressure-sensitive image panning.

FIV supports a diverse array of image formats including TIFF (single/multi-page with various compression types), BMP (including RLE variants), DICOM (uncompressed, RLE, JPEG, animated), CALS, JEDMICS C4, GIF (including animated), FLI/FLC (animated), PNG (including animated), PGM/PBM/PPM, JPEG (all standard varieties), JPEG2000, PCX/DCX, Targa, QuickLinks FAX formats, Microsoft FAX (*.AWD), WinFAX, BitFAX, FITS (commonly used for astronomical images), and PDF files—limited to scanned images such as faxes. It’s worth noting that PDF support is optimized for scanned image content rather than text or vector graphics, enabling quicker navigation compared to other viewers when dealing with scanned documents.

In particular, FIV demonstrates exceptional performance with large black-and-white scanned images, leveraging unique decoding technology to deliver rapid rendering and smooth grayscale views. Navigation between pages or files occurs within milliseconds even on less powerful devices. The software also offers superior performance in viewing well logs—up to 600 x 600 inches at 400 dpi—making it ideal for oil, gas, or water well log analysis.
